Say hello to the dammsugare, Sweden’s iconic little green roll of joy. The name literally means “vacuum cleaner” in Swedish, and yes, that’s what we call it. Why? Because these treats were originally invented as a clever way for bakers to use up leftover cake crumbs and cookie bits, sweeping up the crumbs like a vacuum and turning them into something delicious.
We mix those soft cake crumbs with butter, cocoa, and a splash of Swedish punsch liqueur flavor, then wrap it all in sweet green marzipan and dip the ends in chocolate. The result is chewy, chocolatey, almondy, and a little mysterious in the best way.
You don’t need to know the backstory to enjoy one. But once you do, you’ll love it even more.
